Why This Checklist Exists

Madeira's surf breaks are powerful Atlantic reef breaks—not forgiving beach breaks. Most spots have shallow reef or boulder bottoms, strong currents, and hazards that require proper preparation. This checklist has been developed with input from local surf schools, lifeguards, and experienced Madeira surfers to help prevent common injuries and incidents.
