Who we are

Madeira Surf (madeirasurf.org) is an independent surf guide for Madeira Island, operated by Digital Caravel. We are a content publisher and affiliate referrer - we do not run surf lessons, take bookings, or process payments ourselves.

What we collect

  • Analytics. If analytics are enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 to measure page views, traffic sources and on-site behaviour. GA4 sets cookies and processes a truncated IP address; we do not see or store anything that identifies you personally.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider (Netlify) keeps standard request logs - IP address, browser, pages requested - for security and debugging.
  • WhatsApp contact. If you message us through a WhatsApp link, the conversation happens inside WhatsApp under Meta's privacy policy. We see your phone number and whatever you choose to tell us, and we use it only to answer you.
  • Affiliate clicks. When you click a partner link (GetYourGuide, Viator, Stay22, or a school website), that partner may set its own cookies to attribute the referral. Their privacy policies apply from that point.

We do not run accounts, newsletters or comment systems, and we do not collect names, addresses or payment details on this site.

Why we collect it

Analytics tell us which pages help surfers and which do not. Server logs keep the site secure. WhatsApp messages let us answer questions and fix errors. That is the full list - we do not sell, rent or share personal data with anyone.

Your rights (GDPR)

Madeira Surf operates from Portugal, so the EU General Data Protection Regulation applies. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you, object to processing, or ask for a portable copy. To exercise any of these, message us on WhatsApp at +351 925 567 060. You can also lodge a complaint with the Portuguese supervisory authority, the CNPD (cnpd.pt).

Retention

Analytics data is retained per Google's default settings. WhatsApp conversations are kept only as long as needed to handle your request. Server logs rotate on our host's standard schedule.

Changes

If we add a data-collecting feature (newsletter, accounts, embedded third-party widgets), we update this page and bump the date at the top before it ships.
